Summer Setting In

Today its as HOT as HOT as it could get. A good 30 degrees max with an average 28. Humidity at 60% and wind speed at all time low of 14mph. I stress its really how. Wished we had a fan here, but that's the thing having all year round being (less summer) spring, fall and winter, there is no need for a fan. And have you seen the air-cond. Boy you should see the air-cond they make here, its ancient. Both the fan unit and the front unit are still connected in a single box. They aren't as advance as the ones back home. Geez, another few more days of sun. Just we thought that its worth the wait for the sun, here we are starting to complain about it. How fickle :)

A Day Out Early

We packed our bags a wee bit earlier today and head to Spring Garden Rd. Along the way we stopped by Public Gardens and had a look-and-see at a cafe right in the middle of it (which didn't notice before) - it was called the Uncommon ground.

As our original plan was to catch Bud the Spud's famous fries, we didn't stop there for long but headed on the southern trail along the road. But as it turned out, we settled for Bill's and their poutine dish, which was alright and certainly something different.

As Bill and other vendors of the like were parked right infront of the public library, we thought, why not visit the library. So after a sumptuous poutine roadside dish, we strode along to the library and was amazed with what we saw. Public libraries should be like this back in Malaysia and should also be more available. That way, everyone would love to read and have easy access to books and any other materials. There's even wifi and free internet access everywhere in the library.

Once we're done with our visit and with a couple a books heavier, we stopped by Shoppers and Pete's Frootique to get some groceries. Then on the way back we saw a Beaver Tail. If we hadn't settled for poutine, we would most certainly have taken it but I guess we'll just leave the good stuff for another day - you can't be having too many stuff all in one day isn't it - gotta leave some for tomorrow.....

Beaver Tail

We came across an interesting side store (on a minivan) selling a sugary delight called Beaver Tail. Although we didn't purchase any to try (as we had some dinner plans), it was something you'll definitely wouldn't want to miss. Anyhow, no photos taken of the minivan, but I managed to google about it and here are some photos I like to share.

Quite an interesting dish I would say. Its a MUST for us the next time we head to Spring Garden.

Poutine For Tea

We went to Spring Garden road today firstly just to rush and catch hold of the famous french fries from Bud the Spud. But I guess we got there late so we settled for Bill's instead.

But I guess since Bud started the famous french fries on a van trade, many follow suite. So we settled for poutine which was french fries mixed with cheese curds and poutine sauce

Delicious!!! Just can't explain it. But wife says it different, although she didn't mind trying something new. That's why I love her, she loves to try new things with me :)

Oh well, guess the most interesting part of the day was our visit to library after that.

Oh Library, Where Art Thou?

Ever since a kid, I know I've been drilled to read, read and read. Somehow it is no surprise then, that the love for books runs deep. Heck if there's ever a need for a drip, pls hook me up to a book to IV line.

Today, having finished our delicious poutine dish, we stopped by Spring Garden Library. It was love at first sight. Ok, that's a bit too much. But yeah, it was indeed such a relieve to finally find a REAL library. Having gone to our uni's library and also the neighboring Saint Mary's library. Although it wasn't a large complex, I believe it was very well used library. There's alot of people even on a summer's weekday (before of the end of office hours). What is really cool about it is that it has a host of magazines for you to read, apart from their list of DVDs, CDs and also audio CDs which all can be borrowed out. Did you know the average household in HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) spends an average of CAD$4.97 a mth in taxes for services at Halifax Public Libraries. That equates to 17cents per day. If you were to spend a dollar each day on your Globe and Mail daily, you'll pay more than that amount in a month. That doesn't count subscription to other magazines like National Geographic, Discovery, Canadian Geographic, etc etc or even your monthly movie rentals. The LIBRARY really a great source of information and not to mention a cool place to hang out. Besides magazine, we managed find travel books and so with our all new library card,

borrowed 2 travel books to Toronto (for our trip end of this mth) and along with some magazines which we have not read since we left home. National Geographics for me and Cosmopolitan for the Mrs.
