Did you know that Halifax is a sister city of Hakodate, Japan and Norfolk, Virginia.

Of the 2, the reason why Hakodate choose to be a twin city with Halifax is because they too have a star shaped fort right in the middle of the city. Halifax has one that is called Fort George and is located at called Citadel Hill. Where as, Hakodate's is called Goryōkaku Tower.
